What are the biggest challenges facing U.S. Navy readiness? And what do you think of the Trump administration’s efforts to revitalize U.S. shipbuilding?
First of all, I’m very supportive of the shipbuilding investments that we need to make into the future. The Navy faces a number of challenges. You know, we have to recognize the threats that are there, especially in the Indo-Pacific. So I like the focus on that.
But we need to make sure that our Columbia class and our Virginia class submarines continue and advance in their production. We are needing to have two Virginia class a year, one Columbia class. That’s the goal. So we have to ramp up the production of those. We have to recognize the threats that are in the Indo-Pacific and make sure that we have the resources necessary to take those threats on. It’s a huge area of the world to defend, and as long as we can stay on track and stay up to date, I think the Navy needs to have what it needs and project that power, continue to project power in the area.
