The Vindman campaign was just not ready for primetime. Or anytime

Ed: Wait – an establishment candidate was both arrogant and ignorant of the realities on the ground? I myself am shocked, shocked at this development. Marc isn’t, though …

Axios: Behind the scenes: Shocked establishment Democrats were left scrambling Tuesday night to welcome Nixon to the general election.
- At the same time that Republicans were ready to make her a national figure.
- “We couldn’t have picked a better candidate,” said one of Trump’s political advisers. “I wish we could take credit for secretly funding her, but this wasn’t us.” …
- Vindman’s defeat adds to a rough primary year for Democrats whose national brands were built around Trump’s impeachment fights.
- Former impeachment counsel Dan Goldman, impeachment manager Diana DeGette, along with Al Green and Shri Thanedar, both of whom have introduced impeachment articles during Trump’s second term, all lost Democratic primaries this year.
Ed: You’d think Democrats would have learned a lesson about the expiration of TDS from Trump’s popular-vote win in 2024. It wasn’t just Vindman who’d been blinded by TDS. The Democrat establishment spent millions on Vindman, carpetbagging him into Florida as the most authentic form of the Anti-Trump possible, only to discover that most people don’t really give a flying foo about it.

Wall Street Journal: Democratic socialist Angie Nixon won a surprise victory in Florida’s Senate Democratic primary on Tuesday, throwing a big curveball into a contest in which Republican incumbent Sen. Ashley Moody is heavily favored in November.
Nixon, 42 years old, a Jacksonville, Fla., state representative, secured 56% of the vote compared with 44% for retired Lt. Col. Alex Vindman, who significantly outraised her and had national name recognition as a figure in President Trump’s first impeachment. …
Following Tuesday’s results, election analysts at Sabato’s Crystal Ball moved the race from “likely Republican” to “safe Republican,” seeing Nixon as a weaker candidate for the Democrats. …
Nixon ran on a platform advocating Medicare for All and a federal minimum wage of $25 an hour. She also supports a billionaire tax, free child care and a national rent freeze.
Ed: She’s running on the Zohran Mamdani platform. Florida isn’t New York City, however. And by what authority would the federal government order a “national rent freeze,” anyway? Nixon will likely lose by 20 points, and deserves to lose by 40.
===
OUCH: CBS’s Vladimir Duthiers asks socialist and #FLSen candidate Angie Nixon *three times* how she would pay for both Medicare for All, free universal child care, and pre-K
Nixon refused to say how. pic.twitter.com/P6UdmyapNM
— Curtis Houck (@CurtisHouck) August 19, 2026
Ed: When a CBS News reporter named Vladimir depants a Marxist on national television, that’s worth noting. Nixon is attempting to make the Bernie Sanders argument, only without the usual deference provided by Protection Racket Media gives Bernie. Nixon’s claim that Republicans crossed party lines to vote for her is especially humorous. To the extent it happened, it was likely to ensure that Vindman got smoked in the primary.

Noah Rothman at NRO: As I told my fellow CNN guests on Tuesday night, there are two things I would not want to be if I were running a statewide race in Florida: anti-Israel and communist-curious. The Democratic nominee for Senate, Angie Nixon, is both.
Within one month of the October 7 massacre, Nixon introduced legislation calling for Israel to back down from its military campaigns in “occupied Palestine.” Her colleagues turned their backs on her as she spoke. Her fellow Democrats tried to persuade her to withdraw the bill. She would not, and it went down to a dramatic defeat (104–2 in the Florida House).
Nixon has a demonstrated penchant for performative politics, but she’s a true believer when it comes to her Democratic Socialist-standard anti-Zionism. That will complicate her pathway to victory in a state in which more than 60 percent of every age cohort over the age of 35 views Israel more favorably than the “Palestinians.”
But being anti-Zionist in what is arguably the most Zionist state in the Union is only the beginning of Nixon’s troubles.
Ed: Being pro-Castro in a state with hundreds of thousands of refugees from Fidel’s prison island is another ‘trouble,’ not just for Nixon but for the entire Democrat Party. Ron DeSantis turned this state red eight years ago, and COVID turned it absolutely crimson after Floridians got a whiff of Leftist authoritarianism in the pandemic. Nixon is the antithesis of the kind of candidate that could win in Florida, and the RNC and NRSC will have a field day in making her the poster girl of the Democrat Party.

DSA Senate candidate Angie Nixon wants a “National Rent Freeze and Moratorium on Evictions.”
She’s literally a landlord collecting tens of thousands in rent from tenants.
— Natalie Winters (@nataliegwinters) August 19, 2026
Ed: Can we freeze rents just for her tenants? I wonder how many of these properties have outstanding citations relating to safety and maintenance. I bet we find out, and find out rather soon, too.
===
Mediaite: CBS Mornings co-host Gayle King was taken aback when Florida Senate primary winner Rep. Angie Nixon admitted, “I don’t really know who Mr. [Hasan] Piker is.”
The exchange was part of a seven-minute long interview following Nixon’s surprise win in Florida.
“Would you want him to campaign with you?” King asked.
“I don’t really know who Mr. Piker is. I’ve heard about him, and so—” Nixon answered before King cut back in.
“You don’t know who he is?!” King asked.
“I said I don’t really know who he is personally or anything like that. I am actually focused on Florida and making sure that I’m talking to voters here to uplift their needs and their concerns. So that’s what my focus is going to be over the next 76 days.”
Ed: That’s utter BS, and no one will believe it. Not even Gayle King bought that line. Piker certainly knew who Nixon is, though, and didn’t make any bones about it, either.
===
“Making waves” downplays it.
Angie Nixon was immediately endorsed by Hasan Piker, who said the US deserved 9/11 and Fidel Castro is a hero.
She was also immediately endorsed by Ilhan Omar.
Many new Florida voters fled blue state tyranny during Covid.
Remember in November.
— Ode To Sense (@odetosense) August 19, 2026
Ed: Will Piker and Omar campaign for Nixon in Florida? I’d bet that Ashley Moody would pick up their travel costs. Those are precisely the kind of anti-Semitic and anti-American figures that Moody wants tied to Nixon. And I imagine Byron Donalds will be happy to tie them to David Jolly, too.
===
Ace of Spades HQ: In more Florida election news — and as usual, Florida counted within hours, almost as if it’s an actual democracy with an effective, efficient, and responsive government — Byron Donalds won the nomination for governor (DeSantis is term-limited).
He will face “former Republican,” now an admitted left-wing Demcorat, David Jolly, in the general.
Donalds was “challenged,” sort of, by Tuq’r-endorsed fellow member of the Socialism For White People Party, Steve Fishback, who embarrassed himself gloriously.
He got 10%.
Ed: Fishback also cooked up a poll in the final days to bolster his claim for competitiveness. What an utter clown show.

GROSS: Florida Democrat Socialist Senate nominee Angie Nixon:
“There’s no sexualization at a drag show… I’ve taken my children to drag shows… it’s wholesome entertainment.”

Ed: Democrats are really leaning into The Year of the Weirdo.

Caleb Howe at The Crimson Hub: On This Week, the almost apologetic reminder of past views that Karl sheepishly offered AOC did not include mention of her many, many such views, all of which were perfectly in-line with, if not a primary source of, “Woke 1” politics and ideology. And the idea that she, Hong, and even radical podcaster and purported Democratic kingmaker Hassan Piker have walked back from their extreme views was taken as a given by the ABC journalist.
Nevertheless, as Axios pointed out in brief, and we have documented here more extensively – though not comprehensively or utterly – it’s safe to say that prior to the COVID lockdowns, Woke 1 was already well underway.
And despite her effort to move toward the so-called “center” in politics, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was one of its chief architects and biggest cheerleaders. Something she herself pointed out.
Ed: Caleb has a lot of receipts to back up this claim. The COVID pandemic/George Floyd riots did not create Woke 1. It provided the excuse by which the Biden Regency ENFORCED Woke 1. And AOC won’t wait for another pretextual “emergency” to seize the power to enforce Woke 2, Woke 3, 4, 5, 87 …

Follow along:
FL Dem Senate candidate Angie Nixon says she wants a “pathway to citizenship” for Haitian immigrants, partly because of “the culture they bring here.”
In the next breath, she says they can’t be sent back, because of how dangerous their own country is.
So the… pic.twitter.com/01qKguEpwE
— Western Lensman (@WesternLensman) August 19, 2026
So the culture makes their own country such an unstable hellscape that Haitians can’t go back to it, but somehow that same culture magically transforms into a wonderful addition to our country once they’re here.
Makes total sense.
Ed: This is the same hypocrisy that we see when Trump gets criticized for calling Haiti and other places “s***holes,” and at the same time insisting that refugees cannot return to these places for fear of their lives, health, and safety. Pick a lane and stick with it.

Abdul El-Sayed compares himself to Jesus Christ:
“Jesus was considered radical in his time too.” pic.twitter.com/hkSITnW9AP

Ed: Nothing says “man of the people” better than comparing oneself to Jesus Christ … favorably.

Salena Zito at WashEx: The contrast with Berwick is both striking and a reversal of evolution in the state’s approach.
A year ago, Shapiro was making the case that Pennsylvania could move quickly enough to land a transformational investment. But on Tuesday, he hit the brakes.
In towns and townships across the Commonwealth, data centers are not principally an argument about artificial intelligence. Rather, they are arguments about substations, water demand, land-use authority, construction jobs, expanded tax bases for townships and school districts, and the possible revival of small towns that have spent decades looking for major investment.
Data centers are not a fringe industry. They are part of the physical backbone of the modern economy, supporting cloud computing, banking, healthcare, manufacturing, universities, national security, small businesses, streaming services, and the AI tools being adopted across nearly every sector.
Ed: Shapiro is pandering to the paranoid-conspiracy fringe, and that’s yet another disappointment from one of the last of the rational Democrats among those with national standing. Read all of Salena’s excellent observations about the potential for economic revival in distressed communities that are being ignored or rejected out of Chicken Littleism.

I’D LIKE THE CITY TO TAKE ALL THAT “MATCHING” MONEY AND FILL THE DAMN POTHOLES IN THE CITY AND THEN HIRE ENOUGH POLICE OFFICERS TO ENFORCE THE LAWS, ETC ETC.
Unreal. https://t.co/wH7bAg5dyP— Justine Bateman (@JustineBateman) August 18, 2026
Ed: Bass will keep being socialist until she runs out of Other People’s Money. And at a rate of 6:1, that will happen very, very quickly. By the way, how is the city allowed to fund her campaign? Perhaps the Department of Justice needs to take a very close look at Mayor Bass’ operations.
===
Kira Davis: Why does she look like that? So smug? So…satisfied?
Look at how she licks her lips and bares her teeth just at the moment Zavala asks about this sneaky regulation that has been lurking in the CEC for over 20 years and why she is the one Commissioner to finally drop the hammer.
Her face reads giddy…and spiteful.
It is the face of COVID Karen. You remember her. She was the flight attendant who screeched at you for not having your mask over your nose. She was the postal employee behind a pane of glass who hollered at you for readjusting your mask while you were at the counter. She was the restaurant manager who demanded your vaccine papers before you could dine. She was the neighbor who raged at you for having family over. She was the stranger in line who spit at you for standing too close – SIX FEET OF SOCIAL DISTANCING!
I’ve talked about the ‘uniform’ of the progressive left at length. There is the rainbow-haired, pierced, overweight soldier class…
Ed: Read the whole thing. They do have a certain look, no? Could be worse, though …
