Vanilla Ice says he’ll perform at D.C. concert series and for anyone, including Putin and Iran

Rapper Vanilla Ice plans to perform at the Great American State Fair on the National Mall, despite other artists dropping out, telling CBS News that he would perform for anyone — including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iran.

The “Ice Ice Baby” rapper, whose real name is Robert Van Winkle, dismissed the political controversy over the planned concert series on the Mall.

“It’s not anything to do with politics,” Mr. Van Winkle told CBS News, adding that he has “never voted in my life.”

He has previously performed at President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in South Florida.

Performers such as the Commodores, Martina McBride and Morris Day and The Time pulled out of the concert series after Freedom 250 organizers announced their participation late last month. The artists said they had been misled about the event’s political associations.

The Great American State Fair is set to run from June 25 to July 10 on the National Mall.
