Former first lady Jill Biden wanted to make a cameo on Season Two of “Heated Rivalry.”
In an appearance at The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center’s dinner in New York City, she bid $35,000 in the live auction for the chance of a walk-on role in the gay hockey series.
However, she was quickly outbid Thursday in the “intense bidding war,” as the package deal that included dinner with the cast sold to two separate bidders at $125,000 each, resulting in a $250,000 donation to The Center, the organization said.
“Guess I won’t be heading to the cottage after all—but it was worth a shot! What a wonderful evening supporting @LGBTCenterNYC,” Ms. Biden said on social media, referencing a storyline in the TV show.
At the top of the program, Ms. Biden was welcomed with a standing ovation for the work she and her husband, former President Joe Biden, have done to support the LGBTQ+ community.
The couple has emphasized the importance of acknowledging the achievements of the LGBTQ+ community while addressing the challenges facing LGBTQ+ youth, having engaged with LGBTQ+ Americans regarding healthcare access and hosting Pride events.
The event raised more than $2 million to support the organization, which it said is to sustain its “life-saving programs and services.”
Other items from the show that were up for auction included a signed jersey by Hudson Williams, Rachel Reid and Jacob Tierney, and a Heated Rivalry book signed by Ms. Reid and Mr. Tierney.
