As Beege wrote earlier, the Governor of Maine, Janet Mills, has dropped out of the Democratic Party race to become the next candidate for Senate this fall. It’s an excellent piece, of course, but the subject bears even more discussion.
Mills was the hand-picked candidate of Chuck Schumer, who will himself likely be booted from his formerly safe New York Senate seat by a socialist candidate. As the Senate Minority Leader, he should have had all the cards, or more specifically, all the money in the world, to help Mills get over the finish line.
Mills dropped out because she ran out of cash. Nobody cares what Chuck thinks anymore in the Democratic Party because he isn’t a communist, and especially because he still mostly supports Israel, although he has been trying to downplay his lack of hatred for Jews.

Being a hater and a communist are now crucial to getting support in the Democratic Party, and Platner fits the bill nicely, and if you add in a touch of being a card-carrying member of the elite while cosplaying a working stiff, he is perfect. Even the national Democratic Party has jumped on board.

There is no doubt that Platner hates ordinary people. He has said so often enough, and he proudly sported a Nazi SS Totenkopf for two decades before being forced to cover it up.

As you can tell, Graham Platner’s candidacy is the opportunity for a lot of dark humor. But no, I don’t believe that he “accidentally” got the symbol of the Nazi SS tattooed on his chest and that the guy previously described in flattering profiles as a “military history buff” just never noticed, for 18 years, that he had the SS Totenkopf staring back at him in the mirror every morning, and only realized the tattoo could be a problem when he heard other campaigns were doing opposition research about him.
His own former campaign staffers contradict his account. The guy was, at minimum, Nazi-curious for a while, probably a long while.
It is likely true that Platner is no longer a Nazi; he is now an actual communist, and until he started running for Senate, was quite open about it.
Graham Platner, a Marine veteran turned oyster farmer who is now a rising Democratic Senate candidate in Maine, once called himself a “communist,” dismissed “all” police as bastards, and said rural White Americans “actually are” racist and stupid, according to deleted social media posts reviewed by CNN’s KFile.
Most of the posts were made five years ago under Platner’s then-Reddit handle P-Hustle. They were deleted ahead of his campaign launch in August. The posts in some ways underscore Platner’s reputation as an anti-establishment outsider with unapologetically left-wing views. But the labels and tone used in his writings could also prove costly in a state known for electing political moderates.
Platner trained trans activists as a member of Maine’s Socialist Rifle Association, and has been pretty open in the past about his support for political violence. He has praised Hamas, getting the stamp of approval from none other than Hasan Piker, the communist fan of political violence that the Democratic Party has fallen in love with.

Platner, a big fan of gender ideology, blamed women for getting raped, which should please both his alphabet friends who love sexual predators in women’s locker rooms and also satisfy the pro-Islamist crowd who are unbothered by the fact that Islamists rape women and then kill them.

This man literally lived for 18 years with a Nazi tattoo on his chest and bragged about it to his friends, and only got rid of it after he started running for Senate.

The current Democratic Party leading candidate for Senate in Michigan, Abdul El-Sayed, is another Hasan Piker/leftist favorite, so it’s no idiosyncrasy that Democratic haters are being embraced. El-Sayed vaulted to the #1 slot after Piker campaigned with him.
Platner has been open about his hatred of America, of Jews, of biological women, and of working-class people. He, like Abigail Spanberger, is cosplaying as something else entirely for political reasons, and Democrats understand that this must be done to get the normies.

Later, Stewart lamented all the focus on Platner’s Nazi tattoos, “All I heard about you for a while was, ‘Hey, this guy’s got a fucked up tattoo and some Reddit posts that aren’t any good.’ And yet, as I talk to you, your candidacy, the way that it’s resonating with, with people, it couldn’t make more sense. It’s logical. It has, I can almost watch the bottom stair and you’re walking up the stairs as something that is organic and builds naturally and makes total sense.”
But his popularity with the base is entirely due to, not despite, his admissions of hatred. They love him for it. They want communists, which is why Zohran Mamdani won in New York City. They love Islamists, too, and of course hate Jews.

The next generation of Democrats is not just woke, but radical, violence-loving communists, and the center-left may cluck-cluck and tut-tut, but they keep voting for them. Ask Attorney General Jay Jones whether loving violence is disqualifying in the Democratic Party.

Ezra Klein, a “moderate” Democrat at The New York Times, wants you to know that Hasan Piker is not “our” enemy, and the Times invites Piker on its podcast to explain why Luigi Mangione was justified in killing Brian Thompson.
This is the current Democratic Party, and the “moderates” seem just fine with that. When the establishment New York Times is now handing over its editorial pages to Hasan Piker, as it repeatedly has, this brand of politics is well within its Overton Window.
It’s what their base hungers for, so they feed the beast. Our flesh.
