NY Post: The New York City Democratic Socialists of America darlings appeared all smiles in a live feed of the ceremony, interspersed with shots of a man cradling his head in his arms and bawling his eyes out while friends and family reading out the names of their departed loved ones from the podium.
Pointed reactions online to the apparent show of disrespect at the site where thousands of Americans were murdered by terrorists were quick to emerge.
“Why the f–k are these two laughing?!?” Meghan McCain, former “The View” host and daughter of late GOP Sen. John McCain, wrote on X.
“How the hell do you laugh while the names of those murdered on 9/11 are being read aloud? Why would you do so?” wondered Texas GOP Sen. Ted Cruz.
Ed: This should put a spike through AOC’s rumored presidential aspirations. Every opponent she faces will use this clip to expose her as a heartless ideologue who disrespected a memorial service for terrorism victims. And it should follow her around for the rest of her life. It might even be a clip that Chuck Schumer will use in his next Senate bid, as AOC has long been interested in challenging him. How many Democrats would choose someone yukking it up at a 9/11 remembrance over the current incumbent? We may soon see.

Douglas Murray at The Free Press: This trend of false theories didn’t begin immediately after the 2001 attacks. It took a while for the sinister and idiotic industry to get going. At first, those opposed to American actions in Afghanistan and Iraq kept their insinuations vague.
In 2002, the increasingly cranky left-wing writer Gore Vidal attacked the George W. Bush administration’s response to the attacks, writing, “We still don’t know by whom we were struck that infamous Tuesday, or for what true purpose.” Since Vidal was not a stupid man, one can only assume that he had decided to overlook the most obvious answer: America had been attacked by people who had boasted of attacking it and whose devotees had hijacked and crashed the planes involved. Within hours, it was clear that the attacks were the work of the terrorist group al-Qaeda, acting on the orders of its then-leader, Osama bin Laden. Al-Qaeda openly claimed responsibility, and its leadership boasted of its success in carrying out the attack, including in the spoken and written statements of bin Laden himself. None of this was difficult to find for anyone even minimally interested in the matter.
Still, this kind of insinuation is something that anyone interested in conspiracy theories will immediately recognize. It involves ignoring the most obvious evidence while insisting that the least obvious—or nonexistent—evidence deserves closer scrutiny.
Ed: It’s a virulent form of Gnosticism. The purveyors of these theories set themselves up as the Truly Enlightened, while others are either benighted or In On It. There are some serious financial incentives to creating and maintaining a cult, which can’t be overlooked in any analysis. But at its core, this is Gnosticism applied in a secular context.

He’s right, of course. There is a “red-green alliance” overtaking the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party’s DSA-adjacent figures do seem to despise America as it’s presently constituted. They’re not exactly shy about advertising their “hatred of the United States Constitution” — they certainly have unveiled contempt for its fundamentals, like the separation of powers.
It doesn’t do us any good to pretend that none of this is true, even if that risks offending the delicate sensibilities of those who find themselves attracted to socialism. My job isn’t to flatter their pretensions and assure them that their intentions are noble, even if those intentions might lead them astray. Rather, it’s to be blunt about the nature of the threat that the progressive left is incubating.
