Former Virginia AG joins Mike Pence’s think tank

Advancing American Freedom, former Vice President Mike Pence’s think tank that promotes conservative policies, announced that former Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares is joining as a fellow.

Mr. Miyares, who previously served in the Virginia House of Delegates, will have the title of distinguished fellow in the AAF’s Ed Meese III Institute for the Rule of Law.

“Throughout my career — as a prosecutor, legislator, and Attorney General of Virginia — I have fought tirelessly to uphold the Constitution, defend law enforcement, combat crime, and protect the rule of law that is the foundation of our free society,” he said in a statement.

Mr. Pence, the founder of the think tank, described Mr. Miyares as a “principled conservative” with an “inspiring personal story.”

“As Attorney General of Virginia, Jason Miyares was a champion of the Constitution and ensured that the Rule of Law reigned, that honorable law-abiding Virginians were safe, and that parental rights were cherished,” he said in a statement. “Our entire team could not be more proud to welcome Jason Miyares to Advancing American Freedom — the new home for the Conservative Movement.”

The organization promotes policies from the Trump-Pence administration, such as deregulation, tax cuts and energy independence, aiming to bolster economic growth and “traditional American values.” It’s a host to numerous former Republican politicians, from former Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker to former Speaker Newt Gingrich.
