Clint Eastwood has retired, son says; ‘Juror No. 2’ likely his last film

Clint Eastwood has retired from filmmaking, his son Kyle Eastwood revealed in a newly surfaced interview with French broadcaster France 3, according to Euronews, closing the book on a Hollywood career that spanned more than seven decades.

“I have a lot of good memories of working with him. Now he’s retired, he’s 95 years old,” Kyle Eastwood said in the interview, which was conducted before his father turned 96 on Sunday. “But I’ve been very lucky to be able to work with him on a lot of films. It was a great experience for me.”

Kyle Eastwood, a jazz musician and composer, contributed scores to several of his father’s films, including “Million Dollar Baby,” “Letters from Iwo Jima,” “Gran Torino” and “Invictus.”

Mr. Eastwood’s final directorial effort appears to be the 2024 courtroom thriller “Juror No. 2,” starring Nicholas Hoult and Toni Collette. His last on-screen acting role was the 2021 drama “Cry Macho,” in which he also directed.

Over a career that began in the mid-1950s, Mr. Eastwood amassed more than 70 screen credits and directed 40 feature films. He earned four Academy Awards, including Best Director for both “Unforgiven” (1992) and “Million Dollar Baby” (2004), each of which also won Best Picture. He also directed five actors to Oscar wins across those two films: Gene Hackman, Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Hilary Swank and Morgan Freeman.

Mr. Eastwood cemented his screen persona in Sergio Leone’s so-called “Dollars Trilogy” — “A Fistful of Dollars” (1964), “For a Few Dollars More” (1965) and “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” (1966) — before later starring in the five-film “Dirty Harry” franchise. His directorial work ranged from the jazz biography “Bird” to the war epic “American Sniper” and the fact-based drama “Sully.”
