18-year-old man charged in carjacking of Prince George’s County circuit court clerk

Prince George’s County police arrested an 18-year-old man in connection to last week’s armed carjacking of a circuit court clerk.

Authorities said they took Kairee Hicks of Bowie into custody late Friday after officers chased the suspect by car and then on foot in the Lanham area.

Mr. Hicks faces carjacking and firearms-related charges — including using a weapon with a scratched out serial number — in Thursday’s car theft of court Clerk Mahasin El Amin.

Police said the carjacking occurred around 12:40 p.m. Thursday in the 1900 block of Grand Way Boulevard in Bowie.

Ms. El Amin told WJLA-TV that she had pulled over to take a phone call, when a man wearing a face mask walked up to her car and flashed a handgun.

“I just freaked out,” she told the TV station. “It was the scariest thing that has ever happened to me in my life. It was so quick, just like that. And all the thoughts … like ‘I’m literally going to die.’”

Police said they didn’t spot the car until Friday evening near Lanham.

The suspect sped away from officers and eventually crashed before getting out and running away, authorities said.

Officers arrested Mr. Hicks after searching the area.

In addition to carjacking-related charges, Mr. Hicks was wanted in connection to a shooting on April 10.

Police said the suspect seriously wounded a man after taking aim at the victim during an argument near Landover.
