The White House was briefly locked down Monday afternoon after police shot a man near the Washington Monument, according to the Secret Service.
The incident happened near the intersection of 15th Street SW and Independence Avenue.
Investigators did not say what caused the shooting. The Metropolitan Police Department said the man was conscious and taken to the hospital.
At the White House, the Secret Service ushered journalists who were outside into the briefing room, and President Trump continued an event without interruption.

Police shut down 15th Street from Constitution Avenue NW to Maine Avenue SW. They also closed Independence Avenue SW from 14th Street to 15th Street SW, including the on-ramp. Drivers are advised to seek alternate routes.
The shooting occurred as Washington remains on edge after a gunman ran past the Secret Service in a failed attempt to breach the Washington Hilton ballroom, where Mr. Trump was attending the White House Correspondents’ Association’s annual dinner.
