Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff said the terms of a new peace proposal will be sent to Israel as early as Wednesday in hopes of ending the war with Hamas.
Mr. Witkoff said President Trump will review the proposal before it’s sent later today.
“I have some very good feelings about getting to a long-term resolution, temporary ceasefire and a long-term resolution, a peaceful resolution of that conflict,” Mr. Witkoff said at the swearing-in of Jeanine Pirro as interim U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Wednesday that his country killed Mohammed Sinwar, whom they believe to be the head of Hamas’ armed wing, in a recent military strike in the Gaza Strip.
Sinwar is the younger brother of Yahya Sinwar, the leader who helped facilitate the deadly Oct. 7, 2023 attack on Israel that started the war. He was killed by the Israelis last October.
Israel has said it will continue the war until all hostages are returned.
The U.S. and Israel have discussed different ways to handle Gaza once the war is over. One of the most controversial ideas was displacing Palestinians in other countries and letting the U.S. take over the area for redevelopment.
