A Virginia woman is facing charges in Southampton Town, New York, in the death of Sara Burack, 40, who appeared on Netflix’s “Million Dollar Beach House.”
The Southampton Town Police Department accused Amanda Kempton, 32, of hitting Ms. Burack while driving on Thursday morning. She is charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident in which there is a fatality, the police told Fox News.
Police got word from a 911 caller that Ms. Burack was lying in the road on Suffolk County Route 80 at around 2:45 a.m. Thursday, and she was taken to a hospital. She succumbed to her injuries that afternoon, according to Newsday.
Ms. Kempton’s attorney, William Keahon, said outside court Saturday that Ms. Kempton kept driving because she thought she had hit a construction cone, according to Newsday. He also said that alcohol was not a factor in the accident and that no illicit substances were found in Ms. Kempton’s car.
Prosecutors said Ms. Kempton had spent time at a tavern earlier on Thursday, according to the New York Post.
If convicted, Ms. Kempton faces up to four years in prison, according to Fox News.
