Usha Vance launches podcast to encourage kids to read

Second lady Usha Vance has announced the launch of her podcast for children to encourage them to read more books.

The podcast, “Storytime with the Second Lady,” will feature Ms. Vance and special guests as they read books aloud and discuss why they love to read.

“I’ve always loved reading when I was a kid until today,” Ms. Vance said during her first podcast. “And now, as a mom, a story time with my kids is the highlight of my day. Books have taken our family on so many adventures. Through books, we’ve learned so many things about science and nature, faraway countries, ancient civilizations, America’s history and more.”

The first episode featured “The Tale of Peter Rabbit” by Beatrix Potter and other readings, including from Disney’s “Cars.” Former race driver Danica Patrick joined her for the “Cars” reading, while paralympic bronze medalist Brent Poppen joined Ms. Vance to read from his book, “Playground Lessons.”

A spokesperson for Ms. Vance told The Washington Times that the second lady is passionate about childhood education and hopes the podcast will “inspire a lifelong love of learning in children across the country.”

“Last year, the Second Lady’s Summer Reading Challenge received overwhelming support, and Ms. Vance hopes to continue sharing passion for literature with children across the country in an age-appropriate and accessible format through her podcast,” the spokesperson said.

Ms. Vance announced the podcast on X early Monday, adding that episodes will be available on YouTube and Spotify.

Her husband, Vice President J.D. Vance, chimed in, writing on X that he was “very proud” of his wife for launching the podcast.
