Second lady Usha Vance is pregnant with a baby boy, her fourth child with Vice President J.D. Vance.
“We’re very excited to share the news that Usha is pregnant with our fourth child, a boy,” the two announced in a joint Instagram post Tuesday. “Usha and the baby are doing well, and we are all looking forward to welcoming him in late July.”
The couple has three other children: Ewan, 8; Vivek, 5; and Mirabel, 4.
“During this exciting and hectic time, we are particularly grateful for the military doctors who take excellent care of our family and for the staff members who do so much to ensure that we can serve the country while enjoying a wonderful life with our children,” the couple said.
Mr. and Mrs. Vance, 41 and 40, respectively, met while they were students at Yale Law School before marrying in 2014.
Mrs. Vance worked as a lawyer for the firm Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP before her husband was tapped to be President Trump’s running mate.
She had a political background in her back pocket before becoming second lady, having clerked for Supreme Court Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., and for Justice Brett Kavanaugh on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
When reflecting on Mother’s Day, Mrs. Vance said that “raising children in the public eye poses new challenges.”
“While I certainly miss working, I am grateful that I have the time to ensure that our home life is as normal and stable as possible,” she told Fox News Digital.
The announcement comes after public speculation about the Vances’ marriage when the second lady was spotted without her wedding ring during a November visit to a military base alongside first lady Melania Trump.
In response, Mr. Vance said he and his wife “get a kick out of” the online speculation.
Her husband has been a fierce defender of their relationship, saying in December that his marriage is “as strong as it’s ever been, and I think Usha’s really taken to it, and it’s been kind of cool to see how she’s developed and evolved in this new role” as second lady.
Mr. Vance previously dissed former White House press secretary Jen Psaki after she suggested there was trouble in his marriage, implying that Mrs. Vance might need saving from her husband.
“Anyone who attacks my wife, whether their name is Jen Psaki or Nick Fuentes, can eat s‑‑‑,” he said in the interview. “That’s my official policy as vice president of the United States.”
