President Trump said Tuesday that the U.S. could end the Iran conflict in two to three weeks, adding that it could be sooner if Iran wants to make a deal.
“We’re finishing the job, and I think within maybe two weeks, maybe a couple of days longer to do the job, but we want to knock out every single thing there,” Mr. Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.
The president said it’s possible Iran could come to the negotiating table, adding that it would end the conflict much sooner.
“If they come to the table, that’ll be good. But it doesn’t matter whether they come or not. We’ve set them back. It’ll take 15-to-20 years for them to rebuild what we’ve done to them,” he said.
“We leave because there’s no reason for us to do this,” Mr. Trump continued. “We’ll be leaving very soon.”
Mr. Trump said that leaving Iran will also lower gas prices, which crossed the $4 threshold for the first time since 2022.
“All I have to do is leave,” he said when asked about his plan for lowering gas prices.
The president’s declaration was his clearest to date that he intends to end the month-long war that reshaped the Middle East and disrupted energy markets across the globe.
At the start of the Iran war, the Trump administration predicted it would last between four and six weeks. The war reached the one-month milestone earlier this week, meaning another two to three weeks of the war would match his original timetable.
However, Iran remains poised to continue fighting back, making the outlook for an end to the conflict unclear. Tehran is continuing to launch retaliatory strikes against the U.S. troops and its Middle Eastern neighbors.
