President Trump said he’s ready to place sanctions on Russia as long as NATO allies agree to do the same, as he continues to rail against the war between Russia and Ukraine.
“I am ready to do major Sanctions on Russia when all NATO Nations have agreed, and started, to do the same thing, and when all NATO Nations STOP BUYING OIL FROM RUSSIA,” Mr. Trump wrote on Truth Social Saturday, detailing a letter he sent to NATO allies.
“As you know, NATO’S commitment to WIN has been far less than 100%, and the purchase of Russian Oil, by some, has been shocking! It greatly weakens your negotiating position, and bargaining power, over Russia. Anyway, I am ready to ‘go’ when you are. Just say when?”
Meanwhile, he called on NATO to place high tariffs on China.
“I believe that this, plus NATO, as a group, placing 50% to 100% TARIFFS ON CHINA, to be fully withdrawn after the WAR with Russia and Ukraine is ended, will also be of great help in ENDING this deadly, but RIDICULOUS, WAR,” he said. “China has a strong control, and even grip, over Russia, and these powerful Tariffs will break that grip.”
He said the war will end if NATO follows his directions, but “if not, you are just wasting my time, and the time, energy, and money of the United States.”
The president on Friday said on “Fox & Friends” that he’s considering “hitting very hard with sanctions to banks and having to do with oil and tariffs also.”
He talked about how he’s placed 50% tariffs on India because it continues to buy oil from Russia, a move he argues supports Russia’s war against Ukraine.
He told European leaders this month that he’s “very dissatisfied” with their buying Russian oil.
This week, the president expressed frustration after several Russian drones entered Polish airspace on Wednesday. They were shot down by NATO allies but left Poland wondering why and how it happened.
The move was condemned by European allies, and Russia has said it had no targets planned in Poland.
“It could have been a mistake, but regardless, I’m not happy about anything to do with that situation,” Mr. Trump told reporters Thursday.
