Trump to discuss housing, 2026 plans with administration officials at Mar-a-Lago after Christmas

President Trump is convening top administration officials at his Mar-a-Lago estate the week after Christmas to discuss housing and other proposals they want to launch in the new year.

Kevin Hassett, director of the White House National Economic Council, said on “Fox News Sunday” that his team has “a big list of housing ideas that have been vetted very carefully by the Cabinet secretaries” to present to Mr. Trump

“We’re going to have a plan, a big plan, to announce sometime soon in the new year that’s going to be really good news for the American people who feel like it’s just not affordable to buy a home anymore,” Mr. Hassett said.

He said that during former President Joseph R. Biden’s term, the average mortgage payment for a middle-class family buying their first home went up $14,000 a year because of inflation and higher interest rates.

“And we’ve had a plan that’s going to make that go almost completely in reverse,” he said, noting that the annual average has been reduced by $3,000 since Mr. Trump took office.

Mr. Hassett did not discuss specifics of the White House plan but did not rule out that it could include portable mortgages that allow home owners to transfer their existing loan terms to a new home when they move.

Mr. Trump said Wednesday in his nationally televised address that he would announce “some of the most aggressive housing reform plans in American history” next year.
