Trump Taps Key Cabinet Official to Take Control of DC Police

President Donald Trump is placing Washington, D.C., law enforcement under federal control.

The Home Rule Act of 1973 also allows the president to assume temporary control over the city’s police department in an emergency. The president said he signed two executive orders Monday morning.

Trump also said he is “deploying the National Guard to help reestablish Law Order and public safety in Washington, DC, and they’re going to be allowed to do their job properly.”

Trump said Attorney General Pam Bondi would oversee the beautification of D.C.

“Let me be crystal clear, crime in D.C. is ending and ending today,” Bondi said. “We are going to use every power we have to find criminals here.”
