President Trump said next year’s Group of 20 summit will be held at his Trump National Doral Miami golf resort.
“As we celebrate our nation’s 250th anniversary next year, the United States will have the honor of hosting the G20 summit right here in America for the first time in nearly 20 years,” Mr. Trump said Friday in the Oval Office.
The summit will be held in December 2026.
The president said that “everybody” wants the summit at his Doral resort because it’s near the airport. He said the resort will not make a profit off the summit.
“We’re doing a deal where it’s not going to be money. There’s no money in it. I just want it to go well,” he said, adding that each country will have its own building at the world-class golf resort.
The agenda for the summit is being organized by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett will be involved as well.
“What’s important about the G20 — President Trump’s America First initiative does not mean America alone. It means America leads,” Mr. Bessent said. “So we will be holding the G20 in the capital of the world, Miami, next year to showcase the beginning of President Trump’s second term.”
The G20 is an international forum whose members include 19 countries plus the European Union and the African Union.
Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, a Republican, said the decision to host the summit in Miami is “not only generationally important for the city, but it puts the city on the map as one of the truly great global cities.”
Mr. Trump also confirmed that he will be skipping this year’s G20, which is being held in South Africa in November. He said Vice President J.D. Vance will be attending instead.
He wanted to host a G7 summit at the Doral resort in 2020, but rescinded the idea after criticism about ethical concerns and how he could benefit financially.
