Trump said a new ceasefire in Gaza could be coming soon

President Trump said a new ceasefire deal in Gaza could be coming as soon as Thursday.

The president, who is heading to the Middle East next week, said an announcement could come in “the next 24 hours.”

“There’s a lot of talk going on about Gaza right now,” he told reporters in the Oval Office when asked if a new ceasefire and hostage deal proposal was in the works.

Mr. Trump next week will be visiting Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, where the Israel-Gaza war and Iran’s nuclear plans will top his agenda.

The Associated Press reported that Mr. Trump plans to announce during his trip that the U.S. will start referring to the Persian Gulf as the Arabian Gulf or Gulf of Arabia.

Israeli officials said Monday that Israel is moving forward with plans to capture the Gaza Strip, which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called an “intensive” operation. He also said the Palestinian “population will be moved, for its own protection.”
