A joint press conference with President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was canceled Monday, coinciding with global turmoil over U.S. tariffs on imported goods.
Mr. Trump greeted Mr. Netanyahu at the White House. The president did not answer any questions and instead stood with Mr. Netanyahu at the doors of the West Wing, speaking only to the Israeli leader. Mr. Trump pumped his first before walking inside.
This is Mr. Netanyahu’s second visit to the White House during Mr. Trump’s second term. He is the first world leader to visit Mr. Trump since he levied sweeping tariffs on countries around the world.
The leaders are expected to discuss the 17% tariff on unnamed Israeli goods exported to the United States. They were expected to discuss the war in Gaza after a cease-fire between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas fell through and the Iranian nuclear threat, among other topics.
The president is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Mr. Netanyahu.
