The Moral Vacuity of the Transnational Elite – HotAir

I wanted to take a break from the depressing news out of Minnesota, so I decided to write about the depressing news in the rest of the world. 

Hmm. Maybe I should do another “Things I Like” post to get a break from all this depression. Soon, but not now.





Instead, I want to write a bit about the moral vacuity of the transnational elite, who make a habit of focusing like a laser beam on anything that can be made to make the West look bad, while working overtime to ignore anything that shows the moral depravity of the West’s enemies. 

It’s not that there is nothing bad to say about things that happen in the West, or even that there isn’t much work to do to make a “more perfect union” either here or in other Western countries. Of course, there is plenty of work to do, and it is perfectly legitimate to express moral outrage when we see bad things happening in our society. 

We can even learn from each other through rational conversations. Remember them? It seems so long ago now that such things happened. 

I got to thinking about this topic of the bizarre moral calculations of the transnational elite when I saw this post over the weekend:

t’s actually quite sinister at this point. It defies any reasonable explanation. The BBC needs to be held accountable for its effective collaboration with the IRGC’s Internet shutdown and the murder of 35,000 protesters. Are pandas and baboons really more important than this evil?

Not a single word about Iran.





This, being the BBC, was really striking to me. It is not an American news site; it famously covers foreign affairs, yet more than 25% of its front-page stories are about Alex Pretti. For foreign affairs, you have Cuba (Trump-related, obviously), pandas going to China, tiny cars, a ferry in the Philippines, and even car manufacturing in Slovakia. 

This, on the same day, we saw speculation that 30,000 or more people have likely died in the Iranian protests. We’ve learned about Iranian troops invading hospitals to kill protesters, and that the Ayatollah may have moved himself to a bunker. American Navy ships have steamed back to the region, and nobody is quite sure about whether the brutal crackdown is working or not. 

But that’s not all. The Taliban released their new legal code, which divides up the country into legal classes with different rights. Imams are, essentially, immune from prosecution, while people of the lowest class can be reduced to what amounts to legalized slavery. 

The same people who gave us nonstop propaganda about Israel committing a fake genocide are uninterested in these atrocities, because, well, the victimizers here are classified as “victims” of the West. 





The atrocities that are going on in places like Iran and Afghanistan are uninteresting to the transnational elite, although the scenes of violence in Iran were temporarily entertaining to watch. But the internet is cut off, so there are no arresting images, and the victims never mattered. 

Did you know that the Taliban just confirmed that girls are now permanently banned from attending school? I bet you didn’t, though it just happened the other day. It wasn’t newsworthy. 

No UN special conferences. Hardly a peep out of our oh-so-moral elites. 





Here in America, we are treated to nonstop coverage of fake stories like the “Bait Boy” that ICE supposedly kidnapped to entice his father to surrender (his father abandoned him, but nobody cares about the truth), but the media never cared a whit about the 300,000 unaccompanied minors that the Biden administration just handed over to human traffickers at the height of the illegal immigration flood. 

The kids weren’t important, but two protesters who assaulted federal officers defending illegal alien criminals warrant all the attention in the world. 

Whether you are outraged or not about those deaths, you must admit that the fact that hundreds of thousands of children were let into the country without adults are still missing, which might warrant a tiny slice of your attention. 

Nope. Not a second’s thought. 

European elites will expend enormous efforts to ensure that anybody who criticizes rapists in their country is shut up or imprisoned, but seem perfectly fine coddling the mass rapists. 

They come from a different culture, with different standards, you see. 

Yet we are forced to endure endless moralistic lectures about morality from these people, whose sole moral interest seems to be criticizing anybody to the left of Lenin. 

I very much don’t want to have hate in my heart for these people; some of them are my neighbors. But when I am told that the moral imperative of our time is to ensure that people like this are kept out of the evil clutches of Trump, I nearly weep in rage. 





Sriudorn Phaivan, a Laotian illegal alien convicted of strong-arm sodomy of a boy & strong-arm sodomy of a girl with a deportation order since 2018.

Tou Vang, a Laotian illegal alien convicted of sexual assault and sodomy of a girl under age 13 and procuring a child for prostitution with a deportation order since 2006.

Chong Vue, a Laotian illegal alien convicted of the strong-arm rape of a 12-year-old girl and kidnapping a child with intent to sexually assault her, with a deportation order since 2004,

Ge Yang, a Laotian illegal alien convicted of strong-arm rape, aggravated assault with a weapon, and strangulation with a deportation order since 2012.

Pao Choua Xiong, a Laotian illegal alien convicted of rape and child fondling with a deportation order since 2003.

Kou Lor, a Laotian illegal alien convicted of rape, rape with a weapon, and sexual assault with a deportation order since 1996.

Hernan Cortes-Valencia, Mexican illegal alien convicted of sexual assault of a child and DUI with a deportation order since 2016.

Abdirashid Adosh Elmi, a Somalian illegal alien convicted of homicide.

Gilberto Salguero Landaverde, a Salvadoran illegal alien convicted of three counts of homicide with a deportation order since June 2025.

Gabriel Figueroa Gama, a Mexican illegal convicted of homicide who has been previously deported in 2002.

Galuak Michael Rotgai, a Sudanese illegal alien convicted of homicide.

Thai Lor, a Laotian illegal alien convicted of two counts of homicide with a deportation order since 2009.

Mariana Sia Kanu, an illegal alien from Sierra Leone convicted of two counts of homicide with a deportation order since 2022.

Aldrin Guerrero Munoz, a Mexican illegal alien convicted of homicide with a deportation order since 2015.

Abdirashid Mohamed Ahmed, a Somalian illegal alien convicted of manslaughter with a deportation order since 2022.

Mongong Dual Maniang Deng, a Sudanese illegal alien convicted of attempt to commit homicide, weapon possession, and DUI.

Aler Gomez Lucas, a Guatemalan illegal alien convicted of negligent homicide with a vehicle and DUI with a deportation order since 2022.

Shwe Htoo, a Burmese illegal alien convicted of negligent homicide.

ICE says all of these criminal aliens were roaming freely in the sanctuary state of Minnesota prior to arrest, and that these are the type of people that politicians and activists are referring to as their “neighbors” as they attempt to interfere with ICE.





We keep hearing about “neighbors,” and in the most minimal sense, they are our neighbors. And that is the problem Trump is trying to solve, and in trying to do so, our entire liberal intelligentsia in the country (and around the world) is screaming that they should be LEFT ON THE STREETS. 

Not only that, but some Democrats, including Arizona’s Attorney General, are starting to justify SHOOTING federal law enforcement to prevent them from being caught. 

Believe what you want about immigration levels, but we should all be able to agree that slavery being reinstituted in Afghanistan deserves at least a modest comment, or that the massacres in Iran are at least a bit newsworthy. Perhaps even a greater moral atrocity than enforcing immigration laws. 

Just perhaps. 

But no. Westerners deserve to be victims of savages, and savages will be savages.

These people are morally vacuous. Totally incapable of making serious moral judgments. They participate in a hive mind that decides what is important and what is not, and there is no way to get through to them. 

When it was revealed that Renee Good hit the agent who killed her with her car, Mayor Frey joked about it and dismissed it as important, despite it being a key element of the series of events. 

You simply cannot reason with these people because they have no way of weighing the moral import of various facts and events. They have a fixed idea of what matters and what doesn’t. 

I can’t reconcile myself to the idea that the BBC saw fit to use 25% of its reporting space on Alex Pretti, and 0% on 30,000 deaths in Iran. That nobody cares about the missing children, but they concoct hoaxes about “Bait Boy.” 





These are not serious people.
