Supreme Court to decide Trump’s attempt to shut down deportation amnesty for Haitians, Syrians

The Supreme Court said Monday it will take up two cases involving President Trump’s attempt to end deportation amnesties for hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants — but ruled they can remain here while the case is pending.

The justices said they’ll hear cases involving what’s known as Temporary Protected Status in cases involving some 350,000 Haitians, and a separate case with a much smaller number of Syrians.

Oral argument will be held in a month, the court said.

In both cases, lower courts had blocked Homeland Security’s attempt to end TPS, citing irregularities in the administration’s decision-making. In the case of Haiti, the district judge accused Ms. Noem of a “hostility to nonwhite immigrants” that tainted her decision-making.

The Justice Department said judges are interfering in core Executive Branch decision-making.
