Ro Khanna says impeachment of DOJ officials could come over Epstein files

Rep. Ro Khanna said articles of impeachment are possible against Attorney General Pam Bondi over the Department of Justice’s failure to release all of the Epstein files as required by the law signed by President Trump.

In an X post Friday, Mr. Khanna, California Democrat, said the hundreds of thousands of pages released “failed to comply with the law authored” by him and Rep. Thomas Massie, Kentucky Republican.

Mr. Khanna told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins that he and Mr. Massie are “drafting articles of impeachment and inherent contempt. We haven’t decided whether to move it forward yet, but we’re in the process of doing it.”

The two co-sponsored the Epstein Files Transparency Act. Mr. Trump signed it into law last month.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said “several hundred thousand documents” were slated for release by midnight Friday.

Additional files will be made public in the next few weeks, he said.

But many of the files were redacted. Democrats are particularly upset that Mr. Trump is rarely mentioned and isn’t seen in any new photos.

Thousands of documents have already been released, along with photos, by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee over the past year.

Mr. Khanna said of Ms. Bondi, “My hope is, she looks at the outrage that MAGA has, she looks at the disappointment that the survivors have, and she makes a decision over the next two weeks to actually start releasing these documents.”

Earlier on CNN, Mr. Khanna issued the same warning that articles of impeachment could be coming for “any Justice Department official who has obstructed justice.”

Host John King said that Mr. Blanche said the president hadn’t told him to leave his name out of the released files.

“I don’t know what the president has said, but what I do know is that [Blanche’s] production violates the spirit of the law, and it violates the letter of the law, and it’s a slap in the face of survivors,” Mr. Khanna said.

“And so, look, they have underestimated this issue for six months. I don’t get it. Just release the files, get it over with,” he said. “The president can talk about affordability and the economy. They’re the ones who continue to play these games that make this a bigger and bigger issue.”
