We are being treated to what the CIA called a “modified limited hangout” as they try to recover their credibility after the systematic failures and lying that have disgusted the less self-deluded members of the public.
Over the past decade or more, the formerly “mainstream media” engaged in a series of lies, hoaxes, campaigns of slander against disfavored peoples and movements, and coverups of Democrat scandals. Having been exposed, members of this priesthood of the cult are busy explaining why they got it so wrong.
Some ‘journalists’ explain that they were taken in by the extraordinary persuasive skills of the Biden folks to lie to them without being caught. Others concoct stories that only a few people engaged in the deceit and that they were truth-tellers throughout the Biden administration. Yet others blame groupthink and the obliviousness of being in a bubble.
But none of them admit the truth: this was a systematic conspiracy to deceive the American people, suppress the truth, and gaslight as many people as possible to ensure that Donald Trump or another Republican could not return to the White House.
They chose to do so because they were part of the elite and loyal only to it, thinking the American people were too stupid, too bigoted, and too ignorant to have a say in how they were governed. They were “protecting democracy” by subverting it.
The ‘now it can be told’ books are coming out at a fast and furious rate; people like Jake Tapper explain that they knew all along and reported on Biden’s decline but nobody paid attention, and defenders of the journalistic profession are coming up with excuses that it was only a “few bad apples” who compromised themselves, and not for ideological reasons.

Oh, come on. A group of people who pride themselves on cynicism, deep knowledge of how things work, investigative prowess, and objectivity are now defending themselves in the most absurd ways possible.
“We weren’t lying, just incompetent and too eager to get access.” That explains the series of hoaxes they pushed, the lies about “cheap fakes” and Biden being the best-ever president, and George Washington reborn but better.

It’s absurd, but what else do they have? No doubt it is true that journalists feel driven by loyalty to their peers and a reflexive willingness to defend their tribe, but not only is that no excuse, that is precisely the critique people like me make of them. Their dedication is not to the truth but to their class, and their class absolutely hates the ordinary American.
Mainstream journalists spent the last four years “speaking truth to power” by helping Democrats lie to the American people about the extent of Joe Biden’s cognitive decline. The truth can finally be told now that the election is over.
The first of several books about the Democratic Party’s scandalous cover up, Fight: Inside the Wildest Battle for the White House by Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes, came out earlier this month. Excerpts from the upcoming titles, such as Uncharted: How Trump Beat Biden, Harris, and the Odds in the Wildest Campaign in History by Chris Whipple, have leaked to the press in an effort to juice sales. The revelations contained in these works of postelection journalism reveal the alarming disparity between what leading Democratic politicians and White House aides felt privately about Biden’s cognitive health (very concerned) and their public comments defending the president from criticism.
Axios was nowhere near the worst offender in the war on truth and common sense, but when Jim VandeHei comes up with excuses for the mendacity of his tribe, he still displays a misplaced loyalty to his fellows and contempt for the American people. We all saw this in real-time, and those of us who were not suffering from TDS and a pathological desire to be told a story about Trump that fit our prejudices knew they were lying.
Americans have lost faith in journalists.

Every ‘now it can be told’ is an exercise in self-confession in addition to a money grab. Millions of Americans will shell out money to the very people who lied to us for years because we want to know what these reporters knew all along. I shelled out some money for “Fight” because I wanted to know what they knew, but I felt dirty doing so. It’s my job to know these things.
What is so frustrating is that millions of Americans will be shocked by being told the obvious. And they will be shocked because they automatically assume that the reporters are telling the truth, and they will continue to do so. They will point to the modified limited hangout, claim to or actually believe that their beloved “journalists” were not lying to them but merely hoodwinked, or worse–they embrace the hoodwinking because they enjoyed being told the lies because they hate Trump.

The same holds true for every journalist who went along with this. MSNBC is part of NBC News. The New York Times lied daily throughout Trump’s and Biden’s terms. Yet liberals still believe them because they want to.
When choosing between a reality they dislike and a fantasy or hoax they like, they continue to choose the hoax. After having the lies shoved in their face after the June debate, they now accept the defenses of the “journalists” as gospel.
But the fact is simpler: they lied.
Want a perfect example: here are two clips from The Atlantic’s PBS show “Washington Week”–one in which the panel claims that Biden was sharp as a tack and any claims to the contrary were “lies,” and the next–after Biden was out of the race–saying it was “obvious” that Biden was demented.
