New U.S. dietary guidelines urge more protein and less sugar, processed food

The Trump administration on Wednesday released new U.S. dietary guidelines urging Americans to eat more protein and whole grains while limiting their sugar and processed food.

Americans are recommended to eat 13 to 56 grams of protein per serving, which should account from 5% to 35% of calories.

The guidelines also call for full-fat dairy with no added sugar, recommending three servings of dairy per day for someone on a 2,000-calorie diet.

The new guidelines also call for two to four servings of fiber per day compared with the 2020 guidelines of 14 grams per 1,000 calories.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. called the new dietary recommendations the “most significant reset of federal nutrition guidelines in history.”

“These new guidelines will revolutionize our nation’s food culture and make America healthy again. For decades, Americans have grown sicker while health care costs soared and soared,” he told reporters at the White House.
