Hey there, fellow Americans.
Remember that embarrassing Bagram withdrawal?
That skeedaddle out of Afghanistan?
That ‘don’t worry about any of that crap cuz we junked it, you big fat Republican liars’ and what wasn’t junked was gonna fall apart stuff?
…Expert™, the late Anthony Cordesman said, ‘We junked most of it.‘ And lost a bunch, too, so no worries is the gist of the FactCheck article, besides Republicans are big fat liars.
…However, the $83 billion figure cited by Republicans — more precisely $82.9 billion — is far too high. It comes from a July 30 report by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction and represents the total appropriated funding for the Afghanistan Security Forces Fund going back to the invasion of Afghanistan in 2001. As of June 30, about $75 billion was actually disbursed.
That fund includes money spent to provide military equipment to the Afghans. But equipment costs are only a piece of the fund.
...For starters, most of the equipment provided to the Afghans was used in fighting over the last 20 years, and “we junked most of it,” Cordesman of the Center for Strategic and International Studies told us in a phone interview. “War tends to use stuff up in a hurry.”
Nor should anyone assume the Taliban will have the expertise or wherewithal to operate all of the equipment.
“U.S. military equipment tends to require extensive support from technical specialists,” Loren Thompson, a defense industry consultant and military analyst at the Lexington Institute, told us via email. “In the absence of such specialists, much of it will run down due to wear and a lack of spare parts.”
Yeah.
YEAH
Good times, good times.
Five years on and, man – Americans must still make some stuff as well as they used to, because these American MRAPs (mine-resistant ambush protected vehicle) headed to the Afghanistan-Pakistan border look pretty Gott danged good to me.
Oh, wait. My bad.
These TALIBAN MRAPs. And Humvees.
Look at them roll on out.

Ready to puke yet?
Back at the beginning of December, I wrote a post on how, to no one with half a brain’s surprise, the vile hairy goatherders MAY have obtained a degree of maintenance and operational capability.’
You know how the geniuses who observed such things determined the ‘may have’?
Helicopters flying that were never supposed to see the inside of a cloud again.
…And damned if those little hairy goatherders haven’t learned to fix an airplane. We were assured by Experts™ that they couldn’t do that either.
…The Taliban claimed to have recovered 40 operational aircraft from the former Afghan government, including two Mi-17 helicopters, two UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters, two MD-530 light helicopters, two Mi-24 helicopter gunships, and one fixed-wing transport aircraft – all of which the Pentagon said have since been observed flying.
I am sure the gaping Military Industrial Complex Taliban Experts™ seeing such an extraordinary and heretofore assuredly impossible sight felt like Akawis pointing at the sky in amazement.
Nonetheless, there were Taliban aviation assets in the air, and now here are what were formerly American armored assets on their way to pound a long-time American partner – one we have been making moves to reestablish closer ties to…
…Since mid-2025, engagement between Washington and Islamabad has accelerated. Pakistan has hired lobbying firms with close ties to the Trump administration to strengthen bilateral relations. President Trump hosted Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, for lunch – the first time a U.S. president has welcomed the country’s top general and de facto power broker. Mr. Munir returned twice more: for high-level military talks in August and a White House meeting alongside Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in September. Three visits in as many months underscore Washington’s readiness to engage directly with Pakistan’s army.
…and quite possibly destabilize an already shaky region further.
Look at all those U.S. military vehicles @JoeBiden left for the Taliban to now use against Pakistan.

Pakistan is on the offensive, with word of airstrikes on Kabul this evening already coming in.
Pakistan state-run media has now confirmed that the Pakistani Air Force carried out a number of strikes tonight against Taliban military sites within the capital of Kabul and several other areas across Afghanistan, as part of Operation Ghazab Lil Haq. I, for one, certainly hope he keeps broadcasting long enough for someone to get a bead on him.

There is unconfirmed cheerful news coming in, but in that neck of the woods, everyone claims they won before the first hour is over.

It is nice to dream, though.
There’s also some interesting speculation wondering if anyone in the US gave a little wink-wink, nudge to the Pakistanis to go ahead and unleash hell on the Taliban. If the Afghans are all tied up fighting for their own survival…they can’t send any of the help they recently pledged to their besties in the Iranian Republican Guard, can they?
This report is from 15 February.
The Taliban said it is ready to cooperate with Iran if Washington launches a potential attack, spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said on Sunday.
In an interview with Radio Iran’s Pashto service, Mujahid said that in the event of an attack — and if assistance were requested — Kabul would cooperate with the Islamic Republic.
He added that Tehran emerged victorious in June’s 12-day war with Israel, adding that Iran would prevail again in the event of a US attack.
Well then, probably not. What a pity and inconvenience for Iran.
STROKE THAT CHIN
This can go on my stack of ‘things that make you go HMMMM’ about American action against Iran.
The fact that the Taliban can cause any of this trouble with a single operating American piece of gear still royally burns my asterisk.
I will never forgive POTATUS *spits* and his miserable, traitorous toadies for that.
Never.
If this is some sort of covert action with tacit American approval, Pakistan could be in for a nice thank-you for Washington.
So many balls in the air lately.
