
Minnesota’s Driver and Vehicle Services division is asking the public to help pick its new hold music — and it’s as simple as making a phone call and casting a vote online.
DVS is updating the music callers hear when placed on hold and is inviting the public to weigh in on the options. To participate, residents can dial 469-397-3737 to listen to the available tracks, then submit their vote through an online form on the DVS website.
The lighthearted initiative comes as the agency fields thousands of customer calls each day. According to the DVS service dashboard, the average time to answer a call is about 10 minutes, meaning many callers spend several minutes listening to whatever music is currently playing in the queue.
The agency also handles a large volume of transactions. In the most recent two-week reporting period on the dashboard, DVS printed 63,440 driver’s licenses and ID cards and issued 51,740 vehicle titles.
DVS publishes a public dashboard tracking processing activity and service metrics, including statistics for driver’s license and ID production, vehicle titles and other transactions. The tool provides a snapshot of how many items the agency is processing over a given period.
As part of the hold music survey, callers can choose among four tracks spanning different genres: jazz, pop and rock. The option receiving the most votes by the end of March will become the new hold music played when customers call DVS.
Residents interested in participating can listen to the options by phone and cast their ballot at the DVS hold music survey page on the Minnesota Department of Public Safety website.
