A helicopter from Joint Base Lewis-McChord near Tacoma, Washington, crashed Wednesday, with no word on survivors amid the ensuing fire that paused rescue efforts.
The helicopter went down near Summit Lake, the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office said on social media.
In his separate post at 11:42 p.m., Sheriff Derek Sanders said rescue efforts at the crash site had to pause because the blaze was overheating deputies’ shoes.
He didn’t say if any deceased were found at the scene, about 30 minutes from the military base.
Joint Base Lewis-McChord spokesman Scot Keith confirmed to ABC News that the crash occurred at about 9 p.m. Wednesday, but also said that “no additional details are available at this time.”
