First lady Melania Trump rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Wednesday to celebrate the release of her documentary this week.
The ringing, which kicks off the day’s trading, has long been a platform for major figures to promote themselves or a project.
Wearing a long black dress and wide black belt, Mrs. Trump hit the button as traders on the floor cheered.
“In the near future, cultural influence will matter as much as economic power,” she said at the event. “Our ability to tell our stories and emotionally connect with audiences is paramount.”
The documentary, “Melania,” shows the first lady’s life in the 20 days leading up to President Trump’s inauguration last January.
“Films bring families and friends together, sitting side by side, sharing the collective moment,” Mrs. Trump said. “In doing so, they will not simply watch my film; they will participate in a great American tradition and become part of our nation’s history.”
On Saturday, Mr. and Mrs. Trump hosted a private screening of the film at the White House, marking the first time the couple watched it together. About 70 people attended the showing.
“MELANIA, the Movie, is a MUST WATCH,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Get your tickets today — Selling out, FAST!”
“Melania” will officially premiere Thursday at D.C.’s Trump-Kennedy Center, then hit theaters on Friday.
It was directed by Brett Ratner, who helmed the 1998 hit movie “Rush Hour.”
