Deputies arrested a man accused of overstaying a hotel reservation in Florida, and found him wearing a uniform from a jail in another state.
Brevard County Sheriff’s Office deputies went to the unnamed hotel Friday after hotel staff called to report that Farron Fullerton, 53, was refusing to leave after his reservation ended, the sheriff’s office said on Facebook.
The sheriff’s office said that Mr. Fullerton, already accused of trespassing over his alleged refusal to leave, also tried to avoid being handcuffed.
Mr. Fullerton, as seen in photos uploaded to Facebook by the sheriff’s office, was wearing a striped uniform with the words “Mitchell County Jail” on it at the time of the arrest.
Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey wrote on Facebook that the suspect “was already dressed for his next reservation at Ivey’s Iron Bar Lodge, where his stay consisted of lodging, mediocre dining, and a new outfit at check in!! We hope Fullerton enjoys his stay at the Lodge, we’re not sure how it compares to Mitchell County Jail yet, so we will have to wait for his review upon checkout.”
Deputies from the county, which hosts the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station and John F. Kennedy Space Center, also confirmed that Mr. Fullerton was not, as the clothes might have suggested, a jail escapee.
Instead, the sheriff’s office said, Mr. Fullerton stole the jail uniform after a previous stay.
The sheriff’s office did not specify which Mitchell County the uniform refers to; there are Mitchell counties in Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, North Carolina and Texas.
Mr. Fullerton is now in custody on misdemeanor charges of trespassing and resisting arrest without violence, with a total bond of $1,000. He is due in court on April 13, according to inmate records.
