Coddled California Candidate Crumbles – HotAir

That’s all I have to say, and you know it’s something off-putting, like a train wreck or a fight in the cruise ship buffet line, but…dang.

You just can’t look away.





It’s one of those triggers.

I believe anecdotal acquaintance with Ms Porter has established she’s what’s known as ‘a pill.’ An ascerbic, self-centered, unappealing personality puffed up by their own ego and overblown sense of place in the world.

And when you pack all that awful AWFL into kind of a ghastly outer wrapping, you have la Porter. Who, in the manner of these narcissistic types, has learned nothing and done nothing to soften herself into anything near human.

Yet she still believes she can be somebody.

No, let me fix that. She knows that she rates being somebody. Only the rest of the world has shown so far that it is too ignorant to appreciate what they’ve got with her.

This is a source of immense frustration for someone like Ms. Porter, and only serves to accentuate her less attractive qualities.

Vicious circle, this.

Katie’s rough ride to the California governor’s mansion got really rocky back at the beginning of October, when the woman who ‘answers the tough questions’ walked out of an interview before the questions got tough.

Yeah, it was awkward, and badly done, but two things happened simultaneously – Porter’s absolutely botched faux apologies for acting like such a prima donna.

And tales of her pretty well-documented abusive nature resurfaced. Multiple videos of her former tirades towards her unfortunate staff members began appearing. 





This seems like a regular thing for the delightful Ms Porter, as there is apparently no lack of evidence to the contrary.

Not to mention the disturbing story of spousal abuse from a couple of years ago reared its head once again…

…only this time with her former spouse attached to it to clarify what had previously only been rumors of some of Porter’s horrifying behavior.

Katie Porter is a ‘master manipulator’ who would be no good as California governor: ex-husband

Katie Porter is a “master manipulator” who embodies everything wrong with politics today, according to her husband of 10 years.

Matthew Hoffman, 50, told The Post the hotheaded liberal contender for California governor is a bad choice to run the deep blue state.

Referring to video clips that exposed Porter’s volatile temper and hostile treatment of staffers and journalists, he said, “It’s about time” they came out.

…Hoffman, who divorced Porter in 2013, said people are starting to see who his ex really is, and it’s people like her who make it “hard to like politics” in recent times.

…Hoffman responded with a request for a restraining order of his own, claiming Porter would “routinely” call him a “f—ing idiot” and “f—ing incompetent” and shattered a glass coffee pot on their kitchen counter in March 2012 when she felt their house wasn’t clean enough.

“She would not let me have a cell phone because she said, ‘You’re too f—ing dumb to operate it,’” Hoffman said of his hotheaded ex in the documents.

Hoffman also claimed in divorce papers that in 2006, Porter exploded over the way he was making mashed potatoes, snapping, “Can’t you read the f—ing instructions!” before raising a “ceramic bowl of steaming hot potatoes and dumped it on my head, burning my scalp,” according to Hoffman’s account in court papers.





She seems nice.

Just what the people of California need in a governor. Or just what Porter reminded they could be getting.

 But never one to let an emotionally battered spouse keep her down, Porter was next found working the line at the ballot box on the campus of UC Irvine in late October, handing out campaign materials or some such paraphernalia.

Wait, whut?

WE DON’T NEED NO STINKIN’ RULES

This has caused its own kerfluffle, with Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon keeping an ever closer eye on CA election shenanigans.

Continuing her unique ability to stuff her foot in her mouth, a now haggard-looking Porter *shiver* took the opportunity for a cheap shot at billionaires in light of all the TSA and air traffic control problems experienced at the country’s airports courtesy of the Schumer Shutdown.

Ever the crusading progressive, Porter climbed on her soapbox to demand that President Trump cancel all private aircraft flights because billionaires shouldn’t be flying if no one else could, as if any of this mess was Trump’s to begin with.

Nothing like having a load of hot billionaire potatoes dumped on your head, huh?

It got worse, though. All these Porter wins tote up to the Republican sheriff from Riverside slipping past Porter in the polls to take the lead.

I’d hate to be on Miss Sunshine’s staff right about now, since a second poll the next day looked even worse for wear.

A new poll shows Democrat Katie Porter has fallen from the top spot in California’s 2026 governor’s race, just weeks after a tense CBS interview that went viral.

The recent UC Berkeley IGS poll shows Porter in second place with 11% support from voters — down from 17% in August. At the time of her CBS interview, Porter had been leading the race.

“A botched interview is a gift that keeps on giving,” said political analyst Steve Swatt. “Katie Porter is trending backwards, and that is not what you want to do when you’re a candidate for governor or anything else.”

Swatt said the viral moment likely contributed to her decline but noted Porter still leads among Democrats. “Her favorable ratings are down,” he said. “The good news for her, if there is some, is that those major unions and other organizations that have backed her are staying with her.”

With Porter dropping in the polls, Riverside County Sheriff and Republican Chad Bianco has moved into first place with 13% support, up from 10% in August. Swatt said the shift reflects gradual Republican gains in California.

“Trump still lost with only 41% of the vote,” Swatt said. “Kamala Harris got 59% of the vote, but Joe Biden four years earlier had 63%. So there was some movement there. I think this really is all about Katie Porter, and that interview she gave is still resonating.”





All the articles point to the interview as the continuing reason for her misfortunes. I beg to differ. 

I’d say that was the shove, the impetus that started the ball rolling. 

Porter had managed to get everything unpleasant about herself tamped down and was playing this feisty fighter persona until she collapsed. When that happened, the gates were unleashed, and the old, nasty Porter came roaring back out of the bag they’d thought it was safely stuffed into. Feisty turned into a fishwife, and nobody likes a rampaging, demanding, irrational, shrewish, ego-driven AWFL diva.

 Besides, they’ve already had one as governor for the past eight years.

I think they’re ready for a break.
