Academy Award-winning actress Meryl Streep has proven once again why Hollywood celebrities need to stay silent on political matters, especially when they have zero clue what they’re talking about. Streep appeared on Stephen Colbert’s late-night show, which will end in the next couple of months — thank God for small miracles — and claimed that the SAVE Act will force married women to “prove who they are” in order to vote.
The level of insanity mixed with idiocy that shot forth out of Streep’s mouth during this interview staggers the mind. Toward the end of the interview, Colbert asked the actress if she wanted to talk about or bring up anything, opening the door for her comments. She ought to be charged with murder for slaughtering so many brain cells to come up with this junk.
“I hope that the SAVE America Act, if that passes, all the married women that have changed their names are going to have to go to the registrar and prove that they are who they are. In other words, to your voting registrar,” she said. “This is what I understand. Otherwise, when you get to the voting booth in November, you might be disqualified because your name on your birth certificate doesn’t match your name on the voting rolls. So everybody has to get — and this is such a pain in the neck because you have to go — but do it because otherwise you’ll be turned away.”
She wrapped up her lunacy by saying, “And I think that women need to be heard, especially in this moment.”
Now, we’ve all heard a million-and-one reasons why the SAVE Act is the worst thing since the Bubonic Plague, but this has to be the dumbest. The law requires all voters to prove their identity in order to both register to vote and cast a ballot. Lawmakers designed it to prevent illegal aliens from voting in elections, which, of course, has the left terrified because without this demographic, they’re going to lose “bigly,” in the words of our president.
It’s absurd to assume that this means that women who have experienced a name change are going to have difficulty registering to vote or casting a ballot. They simply have to prove their legal status in this country. That’s it.
Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) weighed in on this ridiculous argument, saying, “This is absolute nonsense, and we specifically included a provision to make sure that no one can possibly be left behind.”
“If a woman tried to register to vote with different names on her birth certificate and driver’s license,” Roy continued, adding, “we literally put in the statute that all you have to do is sign an affidavit under penalty of perjury that, ‘I am that person. This is my birth certificate… and this is my driver’s license that reflects my married name.’”
So is Streep trying to say that married women are too stupid and incompetent to sign a piece of paper? How insulting. I thought liberals were pro-woman. Sure doesn’t sound like it to me. How about you?
The law would also require states to verify and remove noncitizens from voter rolls and expand information sharing with federal agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security. Seems like common sense, but these days, sense isn’t that common, especially in Hollywood.
