Hillary Clinton to headline Democratic dinner in New Hampshire

Hillary Clinton is headed to New Hampshire.

The former secretary of state and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee is set to be the keynote speaker at the annual McIntyre-Shaheen 100 Club Dinner in Nashua on April 25.

“Through decades of public service — as first lady, a U.S. senator and secretary of state — Secretary Clinton has fought tirelessly for women’s rights and been a champion for economic security around the world,” state Democratic Party Chairman Ray Buckley told Manchester’s WMUR, which first reported the trip. “Her work to expand voting rights, strengthen child and family leave policies, and combat global health crises has made a lasting impact both here and abroad.”

The visit to the state that traditionally holds the first-in-the-nation primary is sure to stoke speculation about Mrs. Clinton’s political future.

However, she has poured cold water on the idea of running again for president in 2028.

“No. No, I’m not,” she said in an interview this year with German TV. “But I think we’ll have some very good candidates.”

She told the BBC she expects as many as 15 people to seek the party’s nomination and that Democrats have a “good bench.”

“We have good candidates, and I really believe that what we’ve seen this past year is the Republicans losing contests — governor, congressional contests, other contests,” she said.

Some of the likely contenders have already started flocking to New Hampshire.

Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg spoke about law and democracy at Dartmouth College on Feb. 20. California Gov. Gavin Newsom took his book tour to The Music Hall in Portsmouth earlier this month. Also in March, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear fundraised with local Democrats.

WMUR reported that the Clinton visit will be her first public trip to New Hampshire since she spoke at Dartmouth College in 2019.
