Fourth U.S. service member dies from wounds during Iran mission, Pentagon says

A service member died Monday after being wounded during the U.S. military operation against Iran, the Pentagon said, bringing the total number of American deaths so far in the campaign to four.

The Defense Department has not offered details on the initial incident, which resulted in the deaths of three troops and injuries to at least five others.

“The fourth service member, who was seriously wounded during Iran’s initial attacks, eventually succumbed to their injuries,” U.S. Central Command said in a brief statement.

President Trump said Sunday that he had expected U.S. casualties, given the scale of his operation against Iran. Still, he said the world would benefit from the strikes against Tehran.

“We have three, but we expect casualties, but in the end, it’s going to be a great deal for the world,” Mr. Trump told NBC News.

Separately, three U.S. fighter jets were mistakenly shot down by Kuwaiti air defenses late Sunday, CENTCOM said. All six crew members aboard those aircraft ejected and are in stable condition, officials said.
