Federal agents involved in Alex Pretti shooting placed on leave

The two federal officers who fired guns in the shooting death of anti-ICE activist Alex Pretti were placed on leave, Customs and Border Protection officials said Wednesday.

The Department of Homeland Security is investigating Saturday’s shooting of Mr. Pretti as anti-ICE activists swarmed federal agents conducting immigration raids in Minneapolis.

“The two officers involved are on administrative leave. This is standard protocol,” a CBP spokesperson told The Washington Times.

A preliminary report issued by the agency found Pretti, 37, obstructed a CBP officer and resisted arrest moments before the shooting.

A scuffle ensued and an agent shouted, “He’s got a gun,” after spotting Mr. Pretti’s pistol.

The two federal agents then shot at Mr. Pretti and took possession of his Sig Sauer P320 9 mm gun.

The report did not indicate whether Mr. Pretti brandished or fired his gun. Early reports by Trump administration officials, among them Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, said Mr. Pretti was brandishing the gun when federal agents shot him.
