President Trump says a blue jeans ad featuring registered Republican Sydney Sweeney is hot, but Taylor Swift is not.
The president weighed in on social media Monday about the salacious American Eagle jeans ad with actor and producer Ms. Sweeney, 27, calling it the “hottest ad out there.”
Mr. Trump recently learned that Ms. Sweeney is a registered Republican and included the young artist’s party identification when he sang her praises.
“Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the ‘HOTTEST’ ad out there. It’s for American Eagle, and the jeans are ‘flying off the shelves,’” he said. “Go get ‘em, Sydney!”
Mr. Trump piled on Ms. Swift, describing her as a “Woke singer,” and said that since he informed the world about who she is, her fans have turned on her.
“She was booed out of the Super Bowl and became, NO LONGER HOT. The tide has seriously turned — Being WOKE is for losers, being Republican is what you want to be,” the president said.
The pop singer/songwriter endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in last year’s presidential race.
Ms. Sweeney’s American Eagle jeans ad has received pushback among many liberals who compared it to “Nazi propaganda” because of the play on words when she talks about her “genes” and “jeans.”
She says in the ad, “Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality and even eye color. My jeans are blue.”
Despite the backlash, Ms. Sweeney has many defenders who mocked the ad’s critics.
American Eagle has responded to opponents of the ad saying, “‘Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans’ is and always was about the jeans,” the company said. “Her jeans. Her story.”
Mr. Trump also criticized companies that decided to make ads with “woke” messaging, including Jaguar and Bud Light.
“On the other side of the ledger, Jaguar did a stupid, and seriously WOKE advertisement, THAT IS A TOTAL DISASTER! The CEO just resigned in disgrace, and the company is in absolute turmoil,” he said. “Who wants to buy a Jaguar after looking at that disgraceful ad.”
The car company’s ad last November used the slogan “Copy Nothing” and featured androgynous models in futuristic clothing.
Mr. Trump said that Jaguar should have “learned a lesson from Bud Lite, which went Woke and essentially destroyed, in a short campaign, the Company.”
