Donald Trump says China violated tariff agreement with the U.S.

President Trump said China has broken an agreement it has with the United States after he saved the Asian country from turmoil due to his high tariffs.

Mr. Trump said that he made a “FAST DEAL” with China to “save them from what I thought was going to be a very bad situation” as a result of the high tariffs he had placed on Chinese goods.

“Because of this deal, everything quickly stabilized and China got back to business as usual. Everybody was happy! That is the good news!!!” Mr. Trump wrote on social media Friday. “The bad news is that China, perhaps not surprisingly to some, HAS TOTALLY VIOLATED ITS AGREEMENT WITH US.”

“So much for being Mr. NICE GUY!” he said.

It is not immediately clear what agreement was broken. The Washington Times has reached out to the White House for comment.

He said the high tariffs placed on China put the country in “grave economic danger” because it made it difficult for the country to trade its goods into the U.S.

“We went, in effect, COLD TURKEY with China, and it was devastating for them. Many factories closed and there was, to put it mildly, ‘civil unrest,’” he said. “I saw what was happening and didn’t like it, for them, not for us.”

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Fox News’ “Special Report” host Bret Baier Thursday that trade talks between the U.S. and China had “stalled” since the 90-day pause in their trade war.

Under the 90-day pause agreed to earlier this month, the U.S. would drop its 145% tariff rate on most goods from China to 30% and China would lower its 125% tariff rate to 10%.

Mr. Bessent said that a call between Mr. Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping may be in order to work out the issues.

“I think that, given the magnitude of the talks, given the complexity, this is going to require both leaders to weigh in with each other,” he said. “They have a very good relationship, and I am confident that the Chinese will come to the table when President Trump makes his preferences known.”
