D.C. receiving more National Guardsmen from Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee

Three more Republican-led states are sending National Guard troops to the District amid President Trump’s declared emergency over crime.

The governors of Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee sent nearly 500 additional guardsmen to the nation’s capital, bringing the number of out-of-state troops in the federal city to well over 1,000.

They join prior deployments from Ohio, South Carolina and West Virginia, with their troops stationed alongside 800 members of the D.C. National Guard.

The soldiers are largely patrolling the National Mall and Union Station, though they have expanded into walking around Metro stations near the city core.

FBI Director Kash Patel said federal agents patrolling the city have arrested more than 450 people since the operation began. Suspects have been taken into custody on homicide, illegal gun, drug and immigration-related offenses.
