Cryptocurrency group displays outside Capitol a golden statue of Trump holding a bitcoin

A cryptocurrency group unveiled and displayed outside the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday a gold-colored statue of President Trump grasping a bitcoin.

The group, going by Donald J. Trump Golden Statue, posted on X a picture of the statue’s head and a video of part of the statue being carved out of foam by a machine on X.

A disclaimer on the group’s website notes that the statue is “not affiliated with any official Trump entity.”

The group also uploaded a purported permit from the National Park Service allowing it to display the gold-painted statue from 9 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. Wednesday along Third Street. It live-streamed the statue’s appearance and people posing with it on the crypto website pump.fun.

Students from Liberty University transported the statue into town, according to WDVM-TV.

“The installation is designed to ignite conversation about the future of government-issued currency and is a symbol of the intersection between modern politics and financial innovation,” Hichem Zaghdoudi, a representative for the statue’s investors, told WJLA-TV.

The statue names Mr. Trump as the “Bitcoin President,” and organizers credit Mr. Trump with helping to lay the groundwork for further adoption of cryptocurrency.

“His vocal support has lent public legitimacy to digital currencies and investment in the crypto space. … This statue stands as a tribute to Trump’s visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to advancing the future of finance through Bitcoin and decentralized technologies,” Donald J. Trump Golden Statue said on its website.
