Bloomberg terminal outage delays European stock trades

The Bloomberg terminal that offers markets and stock data to traders worldwide suffered an outage Wednesday morning, with U.K. and European traders particularly affected.

Traders were unable to get the information from the terminal starting at about 9:30 a.m. London time. The service ran with significant delays and traders could not get live pricing, halting their activity on the markets altogether, according to the Financial Times.

“We’ve been told not to trade. I can’t remember this level of non-functioning,” an unnamed London-based fund manager told the newspaper.

By 11 a.m., the terminal was back up and running. Bloomberg said in a statement to Reuters that “our systems are returning to normal operations and Terminal functionality has been restored following a service disruption earlier today,” though the company did not specify the cause of the issues.

As a result of the technical difficulties, the U.K. Debt Management Office extended its bond sales auction bidding window deadline by 90 minutes, while the European Union delayed the sale of bills by an hour.

Bond auctions in Portugal and Sweden were also delayed.
