Pop star Billie Eilish is facing backlash over her acceptance speech Sunday at the 68th Grammy Awards, where she criticized the federal crackdown on illegal immigration and the mistreatment of American Indians in U.S. history.
“No one is illegal on stolen land,” Ms. Eilish said as she accepted the song of the year award for “Wildflower,” from her album “Hit Me Hard and Soft.”
Conservative commentators are calling out the 24-year-old singer/songwriter online, noting her wealth and property, the New York Post reports.
“Meanwhile, she’s chilling in her … Hollywood Hills fortress with armed guards and a moat of privilege. If the land’s so stolen, sis, hand over the keys to the nearest tribe or migrant family,” YouTuber Brandon Tatum posted.
Sen. Mike Lee, Utah Republican, posted on X: “Any white person who does a public ‘stolen land’ acknowledgement should immediately give his or her land to native Americans. Otherwise they don’t mean it.”
