Bag boy: Toddler takes a ride on the luggage conveyor belt at Newark Airport

A 2-year-old boy climbed onto a luggage conveyor belt at Newark Liberty International Airport and took a nearly five-minute ride, getting rescued just seconds before he went through an X-ray machine.

The boy scampered onto the conveyor belt behind a JetBlue service desk at around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and rode off toward the baggage screening system, WPIX-TV reported.

Port Authority Police Department Officers Joseph DeSilvio and Angel Paulino both got onto the conveyor belts, each heading in separate directions to find the boy.

After four to five minutes, the boy was rescued just before he entered the X-ray machine. He was uninjured, said the Port Authority Police Benevolent Association.

The boy’s mom and other family members were grateful. The boy’s grandfather, who did not provide his name, told the TV station that the family was able to make it to Tampa Bay as planned despite the baggage mixup.
