Cam Higby Revealed How Anti-ICE Activists Use Signal to Organize – HotAir

We’ve had a bunch of posts referencing the Signal chats in Minneapolis, especially as it relates to the possibility that the Lt. Gov. might have been involved (something which hasn’t been confirmed). But I wanted to take a step back to highlight some of the detail uncovered by Cam Higby which shows how highly organized this group is with constant contact and following of ICE agents.

First off, Higby reported there were multiple Signal chats, many of which he’d gained access to and monitored for several days. Inside the chats there are various roles for activists who take shifts doing these roles and using emojis to identify who is doing what at any given time.

As you can see, they have mobile patrols, stationary patrols, foot patrols, dispatch, group messengers, safety spotters, license plate checkers, medics and aftercare providers. There is training offered for the different roles.

The city itself is broken down into patrol zones, each with their own Signal group.

The spotters record license plates. How do they keep track of them all, you might ask? They have a database.

In each patrol zone, people take shifts by checking in on Signal with their current emojis. When a shift change happens, people have to change their emojis so it’s clear what everyone is doing. But in addition to this, they stay in verbal contact to help the various mobile spotters focus in on suspects.

Higby’s own car was marked in the database as being ICE, which led to them being followed around. He recorded the audio of people tailing him and finally stopped at which point some kind of organizer refused to believe they weren’t ICE and then demanded they leave.

Higby also caught the message when this same group later realized they’d made a mistake which might look bad on camera.

Also interesting is the operational security being maintained by these groups. They create a new Signal chat every day and the previous day’s chat is erased. Even during the day, some of the messages are erased after being sent. For all the complaining about masked agents, these activists are working hard to make sure they can’t be identified.

The admins all use codenames though not all of them were careful. One admin was quickly identified as having a Bluesky account with the same name. Another used a photo which appeared to identify her as a Minnesota Democrat connected to Indivisible.

In the wake of Higby revealing the Signal chats, he says they were all deleted. But as of today, they are back up.

Finally, the FBI is investigating this. Director Kash Patel confirmed that today.

So we’ll see what develops now. As Ed pointed out earlier, Gov. Walz seems is once again calling for calm. He’s been back and forth so many times it’s hard to keep track. He urges people to confront federal invaders and then a day later he asks politely to bring the temperature down. It’s like watching one person try to do a good cop, bad cop routine. We’ll see if this one lasts or if Walz goes right back to calling this an invasion tomorrow.
