Excavator machine falls off transport truck on I-395 in D.C., leading to hazmat response

The D.C. Fire and EMS Department had to send out its hazmat squad after an excavator fell off a truck going southbound on Interstate 395.

The machine landed on the road at around 1:45 p.m. Friday near exit 10 within the District of Columbia, fire officials said. No one was injured.

The damaged excavator then began leaking diesel, which is why the department sent for the unit to protect against poison.

The damaged excavator was left leaning against a bridge as the hazmat team worked to clean up the spilled diesel fuel, city fire officials said.

The officials did not say who owns the excavator, where it was being transported or what caused it to fall off the truck.
