Man fatally shot by federal agents in Minnesota

Federal officers fatally shot a man in Minneapolis, the third shooting involving immigration officers amid President Trump’s immigration crackdown.

Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said that he had been in contact with the White House after the “horrific” shooting.

“Minnesota has had it. This is sickening,” he said on social media. “The President must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now.”

Video shows several agents wrestling the man to the ground and shooting him multiple times in south Minneapolis early Saturday morning. The man was struck multiple times in the chest and taken to the hospital after CPR was performed at the scene, according to reports.

Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin told the Associated Press that he had a firearm with two magazines, adding that the situation was “evolving.”

Bystanders decried the shooting, screaming profanities at federal officers immediately after the incident, calling them “cowards” and telling them to go home, according to reports. One of the officers reportedly said, “Boo hoo.”

Protests continued, as at least one flash-bang had gone off, and protesters were pushed back with tear gas, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune.

This development is the latest shooting involving federal immigration agents in Minneapolis in less than three weeks.

Renee Good was shot multiple times in her vehicle during an immigration enforcement operation. A week later, a Venezuelan man was shot in the leg by an immigration officer during a vehicle chase and confrontation.

The three shootings come during the Trump administration’s expansive immigration enforcement in Minnesota, leading to civil unrest and backlash.
