A man accidentally ended a New Year’s Eve fireworks show in Omaha, Nebraska, early after tripping over a cord.
The show ended about halfway through its scheduled 9-minute span, according to WOWT-TV.
“A person entered the fireworks firing zone and disconnected the wiring, mid-show. Thankfully no one was injured and we all truly appreciate your understanding!” the Omaha Holiday Lights Festival, which helped put on the aborted show, said on social media.
The man, who has not been publicly named, entered the firing area from the bank of the Missouri River, Omaha officials said according to KETV-TV.
He tripped over the cord while leaving the fireworks launch zone, having been asked to do so because of safety concerns.
Officials do not believe the disruption was done intentionally, telling KETV-TV that it was a case of “wrong place, wrong time.”
The Omaha Police Department is still investigating the incident.
Omaha Mayor John Ewing Jr., who was at the fireworks show, said the shortened spectacle still “filled our hearts to see so many people out and about to ring in the new year together. We are thankful everyone was OK and next year, we’ll enjoy the full show.”
