President Trump took Christmas Eve morning to rail against late night shows and hosts, calling them low talent and threatening their broadcast licenses.
In one post, the president targeted the host of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” that airs on CBS.
“Stephen Colbert is a pathetic trainwreck, with no talent or anything else necessary for show business success,” he said on social media. “Now, after being terminated by CBS, but left out to dry, he has actually gotten worse, along with his nonexistent ratings.”
He added, “Stephen is running on hatred and fumes — A dead man walking! CBS should, ’put him to sleep,’ NOW, it is the humanitarian thing to do!”
CBS announced in July that it will cancel Mr. Colbert’s show in May, citing financial reasons, but critics say it was because of his constant anti-Trump comments.
In another post, the president questioned which network rates lowest in late night.
“Who has the worst Late Night host, CBS, ABC, or NBC??? They all have three things in common: High Salaries, No Talent, REALLY LOW RATINGS!” Mr. Trump wrote.
And, in a third post, he threatened the networks’ broadcast licenses.
“If Network NEWSCASTS, and their Late Night Shows, are almost 100% Negative to President Donald J. Trump, MAGA, and the Republican Party, shouldn’t their very valuable Broadcast Licenses be terminated? I say, YES!” the president wrote.
Mr. Trump railed against those shows before, including celebrating the cutting of Mr. Colbert’s show.
“I absolutely love that Colbert’ got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert!” Mr. Trump wrote in July. “Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron [Jimmy Fallon] on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show.”
In November, he took aim at another NBC host: “NBC’s Seth Meyers is suffering from an incurable case of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS). He was viewed last night in an uncontrollable rage, likely due to the fact that his ’show’ is a Ratings DISASTER. Aside from everything else, Meyers has no talent, and NBC should fire him, IMMEDIATELY!”
