The Department of Justice on Thursday said it is searching for a suspect who became aggressive toward federal prosecutor Alina Habba in her New Jersey office a day earlier.
Attorney General Pam Bondi said “an individual attempted to confront” Ms. Habba and destroyed property in her Newark office during the Wednesday evening incident.
“Any violence or threats of violence against any federal officer will not be tolerated. Period,” Ms. Bondi wrote on X. “This is unfortunately becoming a trend as radicals continue to attack law enforcement agents around the country.”
Ms. Habba, a loyal supporter of President Trump who was briefly the acting U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, wasn’t harmed in the altercation. She said afterward that “I will not be intimidated by radical lunatics for doing my job.”
Justice Department officials told The New York Times that the suspect was a man who originally tried to go into the building with a baseball bat.
After security told the man he couldn’t come inside, he returned without the bat and was allowed to enter the office.
The officials said the man went up to the same floor as Ms. Habba’s office and began yelling and smashing items. He left before he could be arrested.
“We will find this person, and the individual will be brought to justice,” Ms. Bondi wrote. “Our federal prosecutors, agents, and law-enforcement partners put their lives on the line every day to protect the American people, and this Department will use every legal tool available to ensure their safety and hold violent offenders fully accountable.”
