Uber to let customers book helicopter, seaplane flights on its app

Uber is partnering with air taxi company Joby Aviation to let customers book air rides on the rideshare service’s app.

Joby acquired Blade Air Mobility in August and is working with Uber to get those flights added to the rideshare booking service. Blade offers flights on seaplanes, private charter jets and helicopters.

In 2024, Blade flew more than 50,000 passengers on routes in Europe and the New York metropolitan area, including among Manhattan, John F. Kennedy International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport, Joby said in a joint release with Uber.

Joby aims to eventually offer flights with its own electric air taxis, designed to seat four and travel as fast as 200 mph, Uber said on its app.

“Integrating Blade into the Uber app is the natural next step in our global partnership with Uber and will lay the foundation for the introduction of our quiet, zero-emissions aircraft in the years ahead,” Joby CEO JoeBen Bevirt said.

Joby said that Blade flights will become available on Uber as soon as next year, though it didn’t specify which of the aircraft types offered for flights with Blade will be featured on Uber.
